The Explore Data section allows you to build your own custom queries and reports to view projection output in whatever manner you require.
When exploring data, you will be able to choose from the following data sources for reviewing your data:
|Company Force Recalc Results||Contains inner loop results for Product Company with Force Recalculation set.|
|Company Results||Contains results from Company Variables.|
|Investment||Contains information about Portfolio Cash on Hand before and after investment.|
|Model Point Comparison||Contains both Model Point Fields and Results for the purpose of comparing model points between projections. Example use cases include identifying new and terminating model points.|
|Model Point Force Recalc Results||Contains inner loop results for Product Variables with Force Recalculation set.|
|Model Point Results||Contains results from Product Variables for individual model points.|
|Model Points||Contains a copy of all model point fields from the model point files used in this run.|
|Model Points & Results||Joins the model point fields and Product Variable results for individual model points.|
|Portfolio Force Recalc Results||Contains inner loop results for Portfolio Variables with Force Recalculation set.|
|Portfolio Results||Contains results from Portfolio Variables.|
|Product Aggregate Results||Contains results of aggregated Product Variables across an entire product. Only Variables with an Aggregation Method selected will appear here.|
|Product Aggregate Results (Grouped)||Contains results of Product Variables aggregated within the Product Output Groupings. If no Product Output Groupings are included, this will not include any data.|
Measures are the reporting fields that contain the data to be reported on that was calculated by the Slope calculation engine. There are 3 types of measures made available in most of the Explore views:
Total Value – Provides a sum of the values grouped by any dimensions and filters specified in your reports.
Average Value – Provides a calculated average of all values within any dimension groups and filters specified in your report.
Ending Balance – Ending balance is similar to total value but has special handling in conjunction with the Date Granularity filter in reports. This field will be equal to Total Value as of the final time period within date groupings (monthly, quarterly, or yearly) as specified by the granularity filter.
Adding Dimensions and Measures
To add a Dimension or Measure to the current explore view, just click on the name of the Dimension or Measure
Once one or more dimensions and/or measures have been added to the data view, you can sort the data by clicking on the column header in the Data section of the report. To sort multiple columns, hold down the Shift key while clicking through the headers in the sort order desired.
Multiple dimensions are often easier to look at when you pivot one of the dimensions horizontally. Each value in the dimension will become a column in the resulting displayed data. To pivot a dimension, click the PIVOT button for that dimension. You can pivot additional dimensions as desired, but must always include at least one un-pivoted dimension.
Data in your explore can be filtered by one or many different fields. Click on the Filter button next to each dimension you want to apply a filter to in the explore. By default, the report does not apply any filters, so it is pulling results from every projection ever run by you in Slope. It is very common to use the following filters in most, if not all explores you build:
- Projection ID
- Scenario #
- Portfolio Name
- Product Name
- Variable Name
Visualizing Your Data
Once you are happy with the data being included in your result set, click the Visualization tab to configure visualization options for the current query. Use the chart buttons to pick the visualization that’s right for your data.
When you have chosen the visualization type desired, you can further customize it to make the data more readable and to add visual styling. Click on the Edit button on the right side of the Visualization tab to configure the visualization parameters.
